A taste of Ibiza – Authentic Food Spots in Ibiza
Ibiza is renowned for its versatile culture and different appeal to many groups of residents and tourists.
Many visitors often come to Ibiza to experience a wide range of party venues, bars and nightclubs. But, with Ibiza having a more quiet and relaxed vibe this season, why not experience something a little different and support those smaller, local authentic businesses.
We’ve put together a list of our top favourite and most authentic restaurants and bars, that have been cherished as part of the island for many many years, way before the ‘party scene’ and big tour hotels even arrived.
So, let’s see, plan, and get ready to enjoy #Ibiza.
The Fish Shack (Talamanca, Ibiza)
Just east of Ibiza Town, tucked away at the end of Talamanca Bay, you will find a very simple, yet incredibly famous restaurant – The Fish Shack.
This small rustic chiringuito welcomes diners to enjoy a variety of locally caught fish with outstanding open sea views.
Many locals and famous DJ’s are known to frequent the fish hotspot and boast of it serving the very best fish on the island.
Be prepared. This spot is always busy and is a ‘cash only’ outlet. Nothing fancy, but super delicious! A must visit for a truly authentic Ibiza experience. Sadly, the shack stayed closed for the season 2020, but keep it in your diary if you’re planning a 2021 visit.
Restaurante Cala Martina (Cala Martina, Santa Eulalia)
Located on the tranquil beach of Cala Martina in Santa Eulalia, this authentic and well-known restaurant opened its doors over 50 years ago and is renowned as one of the islands most qualified for delicious rice dishes and traditional Ibizan fish dishes.
No frills or expensive prices. These dishes enjoy quality ingredients, catch of the day options and generous portions for all. Everything from paellas, seafood rice, black rice to tasty bullits de peix, fish stews and tempting lobster is freshly prepared daily.
What’s more the restaurant does not close (except on Christmas Day), unless the weather is a little extra crazy, but even a few hours of relatively high storms and rain does not phase the family run business of Restaurant Martina.
Cas Pages (San Carlos, Santa Eulalia)
Ca’s Pagès opened in 1972 and is one of the most historic restaurants on the island, run by two sisters Carmen and Lucia. Situated on the San Carlos road, Ca’s Pages has been offering homemade dishes and specializing in grilled meats from their charcoal wood-fired oven for almost 40 years.
A top recommendation, the sisters famous “arroz de matanza”, a delicious rice dish based on the very best quality cuts of pork, and the “sofrit payés”, a specialty dish that comprises of lamb and chicken with sobrasada, potatoes, toasted almonds and various herbs and spices. Divine!
Before you order, portion sizes are abundant – so don’t over do it unless you are happy to take home a doggy bag or two. No cards are accepted here or reservations taken either, so simply turn up and turn up with cash in your back pocket too.
Restaurante Cala Salada (Cala Salada, San Antonio)
A few km north of Sant Antoni de Portmany is Restaurant Cala Salada, located directly on the beach Cala Salada.
Opened in 1982, and still run by the Riera Sala family, Restaurant Salada has been offering authentic seafood cuisine with an exquisite and traditional taste of Ibiza.
Fresh fish, paellas and lobster stews, with spectacular views in a pleasant, family friendly atmosphere is all you need to complete the day at Cala Salada. The sunsets are pretty spectacular here too!
Bar Anita (Sant Carlos, Santa Eulalia)
Next to the church of Sant Carlos is one of the most well known local bars on the island. Bar Anita, which originates from the bohemian era and the hippie movement of the 1960’s.
The place invites guests to spend relaxing moments in the true spirit of Ibiza. Its decor holds monuments of its past everywhere – from bottles, paintings, sports trophies, old post boxes (which are still in use) and the famous telephone booth – which was once the only telephone in the Santa Eulalia area.
More than a bar, Bar Anita represents a philosophy of life which offers a sense standing still in time. The menu here again is very typical with everything from bocadillos, tapas, Spanish omelettes and fried seafood.
Sa Trinxa (Ses Salines, San Jose)
Sa Trinxa has always been and still is an exciting beach restaurant hotspot, located on the far end of Salines Beach. Sa Trinxa offers a relaxed yet highly social chiringuito with a vibrant atmosphere brought together since 1978.
The bar’s décor is authentic and colourful, hosting much of its original features. The restaurant offers great food at reasonable prices for this part of town, which can be fully served to you directly on the beach.
Fantastic music is regularly offered and often from some of the island’s finer DJ’s which leads to creating an imaginary dancefloor on the sand in front, boasting of nothing less than the original Ibizan 70’s vibe it has always upheld.
Sa Trinxa attracts groups of tourists and locals alike with a typical freedom and sense of Ibiza’s true spirit. Fortunately, Sa Trinxa has not competed with it’s up-market neighbours, remaining a truly authentic Ibiza restaurant and bar!
Sa Palmera (Santa Agnes, Sant Antonio)
Located opposite the church in the quiet village of Santa Agnés, Sa Palmera is a pleasant family-run restaurant specializing in traditional rice dishes and fried seafood.
A great way to truly experience the authentic foodie style of Ibizans locals. After exploring the beautiful countryside of Santa Agnes, stop by and relax in the summer flower-filled garden and share some traditional cuisine with friends whilst enjoying the homely atmosphere. And don’t forget to finish your meal with some homemade herbias or cafe caleta!
Ses Eufabies (Cala Tarida, San Jose)
Ses Eufabies is situated directly on the beach of Cala Tarida, one of Ibiza’s most popular coves in the San Jose area. This restaurant serves delicious homemade honest food at humble prices.
The simple menu offers light salads, meats, fish, pastas, deserts and the famous dish of the day according to the local season and the market.
