As Ibiza prepares for another summer, there will once again be a new generation that will descend on the island. The notorious Café Mambo has a big cause for celebration in 2014, it being their 20th San Antonio season. The younger Ibiza visitors might be surprised that Café Mambo is actually half the age of other Ibiza institutions like Pacha and Amnesia.
It was only in 1994 that Javier Anadon had to vision to transform a neglected Ibicencan house into the birthplace of Sunset Strip. Since then the entire area has thrived, making it hard to believe there was ever the San Antonio we know without it. For many people Café Mambo has become a focal point for the start of an amazing evening on the island. The aesthetics and the atmosphere are explainable only to those that have experienced it.
The spectacular views have attracted thousands of people over the years and long will it continue. Be prepared for some big surprises in 2014 from Café Mambo. It is expected to once again be the official pre-party venue for Pacha and it is likely we will see BBC Radio 1 return to celebrate the anniversary.
With so many lucrative names performing here, it would be difficult for Café Mambo to ever outdo themselves. The names that have graced this intimate venue include Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, Groove Armada and Paul Oakenfold. If the 20 year anniversary is going to eclipse previous years it will take some doing. Somehow though, this is a feat that they always seem to manage.
