Hailing from France, David Guetta was born in the musical milestone of the 1960’s. With a Belgian mother and a Moroccan father, Guetta seemed destined to reach beyond the borders of his birthplace. His early love for music saw him producing and DJing at various small venues across France. His marriage with recently turned ex-wife Cathy, was earlier than some may think. Tieing the knot in 1992, Cathy and David were married and colleagues for over 20 years.
In the late 1990’s, the name David Guetta was becoming more widespread. It was not until the turn of the millennium however, that success would rapidly come his way. In 2002, Guetta co-founded Gum Productions alongside Joachim Garraud. This allowed him to release his first album: Just a Little More Love. It was positively received, particularly for a first studio album, achieving around 300,000 in sales.
The next few years saw David Guetta cement his place in music, both in Ibiza and worldwide. His flagship event F*** Me I’m Famous dominated Thursdays on the island. In 2003, Guetta released a compilation of the same name, further highlighting the commercial popularity of his brand. Guetta Blaster was to be his second album. Released in 2004, it was the beginning of Guetta’s rise through the charts with his fusion of house and popular music. His next two albums, Pop Life and One Love triggered worldwide stardom. One Love featured the single: When Love Takes Over, which would later become the Billboard’s number one dance-pop collaboration of all time.
The seemingly unstoppable success of both Guetta and F*** Me I’m Famous, have made him one of the most popular residents in Ibiza in recent years. Ushuaia Beach Hotel became his second weekly slot on the island on Mondays, in addition to his Thursday nights at Pacha. To date he has sold over 6 million albums and an incredible 15 million singles. With numerous awards under his belt, he was crowned the number one DJ in the world, in DJ Mag’s 2011 Top 100 DJs poll. The fame and success of David Guetta do not seem to be slowing. Now approaching the age of 50, it seems as if for the time being at least, David Guetta remains one of the most successful and ‘famous’ DJs of all time.
