Ibiza Beaches in Portinatx

In the northern tip of Ibiza lies the relaxed resort Portinatx. A step away from the busy nightclubs found further down the island, tourists will still discover plenty of activity and stunning scenery. This area was in fact the location for the musical South Pacific, which deemed the place so beautiful, that it was chosen to be their representation of paradise. Portinatx also boasts three of the best beaches on the island: S’Arenal Gros, S’Arenal Petit and Playa Porto.

The largest of the three beaches is S’Arenal Gros, which literally translated means ‘S’Arenal Large’. Spanning an impressive 170 metres in length, there is plenty of sand to soak up the sun on. Parasols and sun loungers can be hired for extra comfort, perfect for taking in the beautiful scenery in this area. Water sports are also plentiful, there is even a small water slide park close by; ideal for a bit of extra family fun.

S’Arenal Gros leads around to its smaller companion S’Arenal Petit, which can be found over some rocks to the left. A more private affair, S’Arenal Petit is around 60 metres long. Boasting just as much wonderful scenery as its companion, it is perfect for lazy days that require a little more peace and quiet. The lovely coves of Cala Xarraca, Cala Xuclar and Es Caló d’en Serra are also easily reachable.

The third beach in Portinatx is the smallest of the three, Playa Porto. This is a mere 40 metres long, but its size just compliments the quaint Spanish scenery that surrounds it. Small hills can be climbed from its shores which are lined with luscious pine trees. One of Ibiza’s many lighthouses can also be viewed from this vantage point.

Portinatx is home to many bars and restaurants too. The pace of life is a little different to that of San Antonio or Playa D’en Bossa, and it is a lovely night out for those looking for a more traditional Ibicenco experience. As with everywhere in Ibiza, nothing is more than around an hours drive away, and this is definitely a spot we think is worth hiring a car to visit.
