Ibiza Clubs: Amnesia

Amnesia Ibiza

Conceived in 1978, Amnesia began life with a conceptually similar, but somewhat more convoluted name ‘The Workshop of Forgetfulness’. The man behind this soon to become world renowned club, was philosophy graduate Antonio Esochotado. He desired a name which reflected how he felt people viewed clubs, a recreational place to go to where problems could be forgotten. The name did not last long however, and after the opening night it became what we all know it as now, Amnesia. Changing hands several times subsequently, Amnesia really became a player in 1980 when Prontxio Izaguirre took to the helm. Keeping up with the musical preferences of the time he introduced pop, funk and hip hop before house music really took Amnesia to the next level in the 1990s. With the launch of Cream and Cocoon, Amnesia cemented its place as one of the clubs that should be on every party goers bucket list.

Cocoon at Amnesia

Amnesia is situated just outside the small village San Rafael, almost equidistant between the popular resorts of San Antonio and Eivissa. It may not be the biggest club on the island, but it can still play host to over 5000 people. Boasting two large stages, Amnesia also has 16 bars and an exclusive upstairs VIP terrace. Consistently drawing in big name talent, this is one club which is always guaranteed to bring in guests from across the world. Staying true to its name, this is a place where you really will find it difficult to remember your problems once inside.

Well known for incredible laser shows, the best way to see these is from above, on the VIP terrace. Spanning the whole length of this spacious club, this is the place to get some breathing space, and breathe in the electric atmosphere. With an array of VIP tables, you can receive table service whilst you look down on the incredible acts Amnesia has lined up for this year.

2013 has a lot in store for clubbers, hosting weekly nights from Monday to Saturday throughout the summer season. The popular Cocoon will be back every Monday offering Techno and House with favourites such as Seth Vath. Tuesdays see relative newcomer Together return, the electronic night that sees no sign of stopping, with regulars such as Chase and Status, Pendulum and Katy B at the helm. Wednesdays is the return of legendary water party La Troya, both fun and a fantastic way to cool down after a day in the Ibizan heat. Thursdays is Cream, which needs no introduction featuring Ibiza stalwarts Paul Oakenfield and Eddie Halliwell to name a few. Friday will be Music On with Marco Carola and last but not least, Saturday will be Matinee for those with more Spanish tastes.
