Since 2006, The Zoo Project has been offering party goers a more unusual way to spend their day. Despite the slightly deceptive name, it is strictly over-18s only; and the only animals you are likely to encounter are the guests themselves. Taking place each Wednesday and Saturday, The Zoo Project ethos is to unite all party animals.
The open air venue began life as a traditional zoo, now abandoned, it still consists of picturesque gardens, a pool and numerous stages. Set at the foot of the Benimussa hills, it is a short taxi ride from San Antonio or Playa D’en Bossa and boasts the lush green scenery of inland Ibiza. It is easily the most original of the ever increasing list of daytime events, setting itself apart from the likes of Ushuaia and Ibiza Rocks with it’s unusual concept.
Weekly, The Zoo Project plays host to the best DJs the underground house music scene has to offer. Growing with infamy year on year amongst music lovers; it now attracts the most hard-core island visitors in masses. A strictly minimal dress code is encouraged, with extravagant body paint suggested as your main adornment. The popularity of this event has seen body painters flock to the island vying to create the most elaborate artwork. Artists flood the streets of Ibiza each Wednesday and Saturday with sprays, paint, glitter and feathers.
The sound of the Zoo is innovative and eclectic. The music starts pumping at 4.30pm with a soundtrack including everything from minimal to deep house and techno. It does not stop there however, you can also expect a spectacle of live performers. Fire jugglers, exotic dancers and even the odd uni-cycling gorilla may be found thriving on the atmosphere. As the sun sets, everyone gathers at the Seal-Pit to watch DJs until midnight when you will need to decide which after party your costume should take you to.
