International Music Summit Ibiza 2014
The International Music Summit, or IMS, is a very special date on Ibizas calendar. An important occasion for the worlds music industry, this event heralds the start of the summer season for the big clubs and showcases up and coming music acts alongside well known DJs and musicians.
In 2014 the summit will run from Wednesday 21st May until Friday 23rd May, and regular attendees will see big changes from previous years. This year, the main venue for events will be the Hard Rock Hotel in Playa den Bossa. This state of the art resort, which is set to open on 18th May, boasts open air music venues, luxurious suites and unparalleled facilities, making it an ideal home for the movers and shakers who flock to the IMS each year.
All of the debates, events, presentations and key speeches will take place in the hotel, which will become a central hub for the summit, now in its seventh year. However, the Grand Finale parties, for which the IMS is so famous, will remain in the impressive setting of Dalt Vila, the old fort of Ibiza Town. These legendary parties have previously played host to the biggest names in the dance music industry, including Sven Vath, Carl Cox and Loco Dice to name but a few, and this year will be no exception.
The first party takes place on Thursday 22nd May and will be headlined by Steve Angello, previously of Swedish House Mafia, alongside Pete Tong, who will be celebrating his recent MBE. They will be joined by Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, as well as a live performance from Pretty Lights. This stellar line-up will be supported by Manu Gonzalez who will make history as the first Ibicenco DJ to play at the legendary Dalt Vila extravaganza.
The festivities come to a dramatic end with the Grand Finale on Friday 23rd May. This night will see the music taking an underground turn, headlined by Jamie Jones of Paradise at DC10 fame. Eat Everything , George Fitzgerald and DJ duo Bob Moses will also take to the decks, joined by Marino Canal, to bring the IMS to its spectacular finish.
The goal of the IMS is to bring together the best minds in the dance music industry and offer a platform for debates, speeches, new initiatives and most importantly new music. Over the three days, the IMS will offer a wide range of opportunities for labels, producers and DJs to showcase their talents, whether that is creating new tracks or promoting apps or music technology. The theme for this years summit is Filtering the Future and you can expect to see some of the industrys most influential figures joining the debates.
Ben Turner, one of the founders of the IMS has this to say about this years conference: IMS was created so people can debate and be inspired about the future of a technology-driven genre of music, so inevitably our host venue needs to also move with the times. This is a major opportunity for us to create a new home as we expand within the genre and with the ambitions of our delegates. We are impressed with the work of Hard Rock International and feel we are in good hands. The irony of the history and name of the hotel is not lost on us this is a true reflection of how our music is seeping into mainstream culture worldwide and continuing to break down barriers of entry.
