Spring into Summer – Visit Ibiza before the clubs open!

Spring into Summer – Reasons to visit Ibiza before the clubs open

Summer 2014 is just around the corner and although the superclubs are still closed, the island of Ibiza is far from quiet. The spring weather is largely sunny and considerably warmer than most European climates, making Ibiza a perfect off season destination. The island is at its most beautiful during these months, with the countryside offering a colourful display of spring flowers and greenery at this time of year.

Spring on the island is full of activities, festivals and fiestas to entertain visitors of all ages.
On Saturday 22nd of March, the usually sleepy town of San Jose celebrates its Flower Power Festival. The festival takes place each year to celebrate Dia de San José / St. Joseph’s Day. Street parties, live music and a huge open air disco are all themed with the 60’s vibe. The party continues late into the night and is a great opportunity to release your inner hippy!
Easter or ‘Semana Santa ‘ as it known in Spain, is a much celebrated holiday. This year, Easter weekend runs from Friday 18th April to Monday 21st April.Medieval festival Ibiza 8

Most towns have their own festival to commemorate this holy week, with hundreds of people taking to the streets in a procession, and the town centres packed with stalls selling local produce. The processions usually end in the town square where live bands entertain the crowds. Although predominantly a religious occasion, it is also a time to get together with friends and family and celebrate. Many bars and restaurants organise special activities for children such as Easter Egg hunts and Easter themed parties.

The Medieval Festival takes place each year on the second week of May inIbiza Town. The festival was created to celebrate Ibiza being granted World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1999. The streets of Dalt Vila, the ancient old fort, come alive with hundreds of stalls, live bands, and outrageous performers dressed in medieval costumes. The stalls are all themed around medieval goods and you can find handmade leather products, jewellery, spices, fruits and other souvenirs. During the festival, entrance to the museums in the area is free of charge. This is a great opportunity to explore the historical side of Ibiza.

Healing Ibiza is an annual event which this year takes place on 11th and 12th May in the spectacular setting of the Atzaro Agrotourismo. Showcasing a wide range of therapies including oracle readings, speakers, workshops, a Yoga area, children’s area and a Meditation Zone, it is truly a celebration of the mind, body and soul.
