San Antonio – A Visitor’s Guide

San Antonio Ibiza (1)

San Antonio is one of the busiest resorts in Ibiza, popular with families and partygoers alike and it has a reputation for attracting a young, hedonistic crowd. However, there is another side to the town, which was once a sleepy fishing village before the tourism explosion of the 1950’s. Follow our guide and discover the true San Antonio.

Where to eat

There are literally hundreds of restaurants in San Antonio, offering various types of cuisines, from traditional English fare to more exotic dishes from all over the world. Villa Mercedes , with its prime location on the waterfront is one of the most enduring restaurants in town and has been a favourite with both locals and holidaymakers for over fifteen years. Its varied menu combines traditional Spanish dishes with a modern twist, and the cocktails are legendary. If you fancy something a little more spicy, head to Tijuana Tex Mex, an Ibiza institution where the friendly owner is always on hand to greet you. A shot of tequila will warm up your appetite…and we highly recommend the fajitas!

Beaches

San Antonio boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. From the tiny secluded bay of Cala Gracionetta, to the crystal clear waters of Cala Bassa, you cannot fail to find your perfect beach somewhere in the area. Regular ferries run from the port to Cala Bassa and Cala Conte. In the town itself, Playa S’Estanyol is a favourite spot for water sport enthusiasts, where adrenaline junkies will enjoy the inflatable high speed thrills of the tornado rings, flyfish and banana boats.

Attractions

Ocean Mania is a new addition to the San Antonio landscape, inspired by the popular TV show Total Wipeout. Situated in the S’Arenal bay, this floating inflatable obstacle course offers a world of fun for families and thrill seekers. Sea life lovers should head to the Aquarium Cap Blanc situated in Cala Gracio, and according to local legend, is built on the site of an old smugglers cove. Here you will find a colourful display of fish, octopus, and other marine life to delight visitors of all ages.

Sunsets

The world famous Sunset Strip can be found here in San Antonio in the bay of Cala des Moro. This stretch of coastline is peppered with bars and restaurants, all catering to the hundreds of people who gather here each evening to watch the sun make its majestic descent into the sea. A round of applause is usual as it finally dips into the water, marking the end of another perfect Ibiza day.

 Nightlife

Of course, we cannot forget the nightlife scene in the town! Revellers and clubbers from all over the globe head here each summer to let their hair down and dance the night away. From the endless bars of the notorious West End, where happy hours and cheap drink prices prevail, to the club scene, it’s a true piece of party paradise. Es Paradis has been holding legendary parties since the mid 1970’s, with it’s beautifully designed interior playing host to the famous foam and water parties. If live music is more your thing then head to Ibiza Rocks, the pioneers of live gigs in Ibiza, who this year have seen Nas, Ed Sheeran and Haim taking to the stage, with more big names set to follow in 2015.
