San Antonio’s Hidden Treasures.

If I were to say to you, “West End”, what would be the first image that flashes into your head?

For those of you that have visited San Antonio in the past, it may well be that of a teenager clutching a plastic cup of Fat Frog in one hand, a greasy kebab in the other.

For anyone not personally familiar with the area, but having seen one of the notoriously one-sided satellite-TV documentaries, the first thing that springs to mind could be something much, much more ‘decadent’!

But would you believe that in the same area, or just meters away, one can find bars, restaurants and shops that offer a completely different ambience?

We’ll look at some of these places in the next few blogs, starting today with a newly-opened restaurant in the heart of the West End. You’d be hard-pushed to know that once you’re sat at your table though!

A short walk up the hill from the taxi rank, taking the fourth turning on the left into Carrer del General Prim, will bring you to ‘Just Eat’.

Opened in Spring of this year, ‘Just Eat’ offers a reasonably-priced, comprehensive menu in clean, comfortable surroundings.

The ‘Just Eat’ team of Lou, Christian and Susanna have many years of restaurant experience between them, having in the past worked at well-respected eateries Banyan Palace and Villa Mercedes.

All of the food is home-made using local produce, which for the prices charged, makes anything on their menu extremely good value.

Starters are from €5 (Soup of the Day), and Mains from just €9 (Penne Pasta, amongst other choices).

Lou tells us that the most popular menu items are Thai Fishcakes at €9, and the Classic French Pate, at €7.50. A Fresh Fish of the Day dish is offered, as well as sirloin steaks for the carnivores amongst us and a good selection of vegetarian and salad options for the health-conscious. Their extensive wine list starts from €10.50 for a bottle of the popular ‘Nuviana’.

When I visited, I decided on the Thai Fishcakes (Extremely delicious and authentic), followed by the very, VERY more-ish home-made Chocolate Nemesis. It really is to die for!

I must also mention the beautifully-presented tables and interior decor. Cloth napkins, good-quality cutlery and glasses and a tastefully decorated dining room make a very pleasant change from the usual West End standard!

Something which will appeal to those on a budget will be their ‘Early Bird’ offer from 6pm to 9pm. A choice of daily-changing starter, main and sweet, with a drink for just €12.50. This offer also applies to beef and chicken Sunday roasts too. For those of you that have kids in tow, then a 2-course option (Main, dessert and drink), is €7.50.

‘Just Eat’ open from 6pm Monday to Saturday, 4pm on Sundays. Last orders is 11pm. Table bookings can be made, call +34 622 825 338

We at Ibizahire rate ‘Just Eat’ very highly, and recommend that instead of standing in a queue at Burger King or such and having your food given to you wrapped in paper or in a cardboard box, spend just a few Euros more and sit down to a top-quality, home-made meal in pleasant surroundings.

And make sure you try the Chocolate Nemesis……….!
