The latest Ibiza music announcements!!

Obviously Playa d’en Bossa is the town you’re going to want to stay in if you’re on island for the clubs. Space, DC10, Ushuaïa and Sankeys are all within about 10-15 minutes of each other, even after some fairly heavy physically impairing sessions on the dance floor. So you wouldn’t think there was much cause for another club to try and stamp its mark on the area, but MOMA and the Hotel Garbi think differently. The hotels 1500 capacity basement club recently reopened as MOMA – a branch of Madrid’s MOMA Fifty Six. There are a few nights confirmed, but with little announced officially yet, we’re all left wondering.

There’s a pretty steady flow of information on the International Music Summit at the moment, and being one of the first events to happen in the season, they have to be a little head of the pack. The first speakers were announced for the conference, and I’ll pick out some of the highlights for you. Sven Väth will be giving a keynote address on legality in the business off the back of his long running success with Cocoon on the island. A cool addition is Idris Elba. Not know who he is? I wasn’t sure either to be honest, but it turns out he’s the actor from The Wire and Prometheus that also just happens to have a pretty decent music career on the side. Who knew!? Driis is his name, and teaching about keeping it real as a DJ is his game, it seems. There are various other industry experts from labels, agencies and the like all talking that are guaranteed to be of he interest, but perhaps some of the more recognisable names such as Paul Van Dyk, Groove Armada and Eats Everything will be there in differing capacities. If you can afford the ticket, you should check this out.

More on IMS – Fatboy Slim is the artists chosen this year to be honoured at the Legends Dinner. Now, for your average joe this means nothing as we’re unlikely to be invited to the special dinner (held last year at Lio in Ibiza Town marina), but that does mean he’ll be hosting the FREE party up at Dalt Vila on the Thursday night, with aforementioned Driis and Pete Tong playing also. Get invoked if you can.

Es Paradis are the first of the San An clubs to start talking about the seasons plans. They will open on Friday 24th May – the same night as the IMS Grand Finale and Sankeys part 2 Opening – with a typically glamorous affair. Expect the club to look like a beautiful Greek garden of dreams with various lycra thong clad ladies swinging from the rafters all in the name of a creative performance _ I’ll be down for that. They are opening a little later this year than previous seasons, which makes much more sense, now lets just see what nights they have brought in for their weekly programme.

Space had a few announcements to talk about recently. First, the conformation of their closing party date on the 6th October, which many expected. Then they have been talking about a reshuffle of some of their nights. Monday will see the gay friendly Cafe Ole move from Saturdays. The Saturday slot will be replaced by Kehakuma, who had previously hosted the Terraza with ENTER., but Hawtin’s night was such a success it has been seen appropriate that they host the whole club. Sounds good to me. Wednesday will be Ibiza Calling, but with some cool names involved this time round to try and spice things up a little. Friday will see a new night launching at the club, but no more on that as yet.

So, there’s your roundup for the moment, expect more later in the week!
