So, the club news keeps coming as more and more details of the 2013
season parties are announced! We’ve heard from Ibiza Rocks, Burn Studios, Sankeys, Pukka Up and Cadenza with some interest tech news regarding Shazam. On Wednesday morning, Ibiza Rocks released the headline act of their closing party, to be held on Wednesday 18th September, and that act is Bristol band ‘Foals’. Off the wave of inevitable success after their third album being released today, the guys seem to be looking forward to the gig, with lead singer Yannis Philippakis saying “We’ve always wanted to go to an Ibiza closing party… and now we get to play one. Double bubble.” So, that’s Jake Bugg, Example and now Foals all announced so far for Ibiza Rocks. A pretty decent start
Side stepping the clubs for a second, Burn Studios are back with a competition for another Ibiza DJ residency. All you have to do is send a 20 minute mix through to their MixCloud in the next few weeks and you’ll be considered. The winners can look forward to tutorials from the likes of Solomun and Steve Lawler, and eventually a residency at a venue on the island – previous winners have played at Sankeys and Café Mambo. We all know how much of a success Sankeys was last year after an admittedly shaky first season in 2011, and things are looking set to continue this year, but with improvements! First off, Finnebassen has been booked to play their opening on Thursday 23rd May, at the request of their loyal Facebook followers – people power! But initial details of which parties will be back for this season have made their way out into public domain. Steve Lawler’s Viva Warriors is back, but changing from midweek to the Sunday night slow, to go head to head with We Love
at Space (although not Cadenza at Pacha, more on that below). Saturday night mainstay – Carnival – is confirmed to return to the same spot for 17 parties across the summer, with various external promoters involved such as Bugged out!, Junk, Culprit and more. Perhaps the biggest news for Sankeys is the addition of a dedicated party from Claude Von Stroke as his brings his Dirtybird Records crew to the club each Thursday from the 27th June. Big. Loads more announcements to come from that club, watch this space.Pukka Up has undoubtedly laid claim to the crown of most popular boat party on the island, with the guys regular selling out all their boats each week, and packing out the after party venues. Previously Tuesday boats have finished and the crowd has taken itself to Space for Carl Cox’s party, but in a change of direction, Pukka Up announced they would be using Amnesia’s Together as their official afters, with the likes of Annie Mac, Chase & Status and Eric Prydz playing regularly during the 2012 season. I certainly think it is a better move for them, with the music being more appropriate for the crowd.
Only last week, it came to light that Pacha and Luciano’s Cadenza Vagabundos party will separate and go their separate ways for the 2013 season and beyond. It is unclear exactly why this has happened, but reports seem to suggest that Pacha will be taking the club in a new direction, or rather a direction more akin to its past, and perhaps some of the external parties would be moving on this year (Defected and others included). No word yet on where Luciano will go, but many people have their opinions on where would be best, only time will tell.
Finally, music lovers rejoice! Beatport have announced that they will be working with Shazam, the music recognition App for your phone, to have their entire catalogue of music added to the software, enabling people to find out exactly what obscure underground track the DJ is playing in whatever club they happen to be in. Which means we are all one step closer to be ridiculously cool, happy days
